Overview

Today, the economic fabric of society is undergoing changes so significant as to amount to a paradigm shift, in the midst of which advanced education is expected to hold the key. In order to respond to such expectations, this unit conducts research from a global standpoint both on how we might reaffirm the role of Japanese universities and on what a new university system which would meet the needs of a changed world might look like.

Research

To achieve our goals, firstly we examine both the social effects and the innovation-promoting effects, of advanced education, as objectively as possible. Secondly, from a global standpoint, we collect qualitative facts about changes in the economy, in society as a whole and in the advanced education system, with particular focus on changes in doctoral training systems and in their role. Finally, we coordinate our discussions and compile a report on the role and the future of advanced education.
