Overview

Adopting strategic intelligence approaches such as road mapping, scenario mapping, and regulatory impact assessment in various fields, we conduct researches mainly concerning technology assessment. We also discuss the design of institutions.

Research

Technology assessment (TA) is the social impact assessment of technology and widely involves determining objectively what influences technology development has on society, disseminating our findings with the public, policy makers and the government, and provoking discussion to underpin decision-making.
We reaffirmed the role that technology assessment may play in the policy-making process in science and technology through our Science and Technology Governance Seminars and joint symposiums with the Innovation and Institutionalization of Technology Assessment (I2ta) project (from fiscal year 2007 to 2010), held at the Graduate School of Public Policy. After the I2ta project ended, its outcomes and resources were passed over to the Policy Alternatives Research Institute. The Technology Assessment Research Demonstration Project implements a technology assessment on the socio-economic scenario of the Energy Efficiency Roadmap Formulation in East Asia and develops an institutional design for Medical Technology Assessment (MTA) and Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA).
