Purpose
Now we are in a globally interconnected and interdependent society where science and technology play increasingly crucial roles. In this situation, multi-faceted risks with systemic nature are emerging and/or re-emerging in social, political and economic domains by increasing interconnectedness, social networking and fast-paced scientific and technological advancement. In order to enable societies to benefit from science and technology advancement while minimizing the negative consequences of the associated risks, we should pursue better risk governance.
In the Symposium, we have two keynote lectures from Germany and China, in order to understand principles and interdisciplinary approaches for governing risks stemming from development and utilization of science and technology. In the panel session, we will discuss commonalities and differences across different technologies and regions, and specific and cross-cutting issues for a better governance of emerging risks.
