Hideaki SHIROYAMA is a Professor of Public Administration at the Graduate School of Public Policy and at the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, and the former Director of UTokyo Policy Alternatives Research Institute, The University of Tokyo. His research focuses on international administration, science, technology and public policy, and public policy process. His publications include Transformation of Political Space and Policy Innovation 1 Political Theory of Policy Innovation (University of Tokyo Press, 2008), The Structure of International Aid Administration (University of Tokyo Press, 2007), Governance of Science and Technology (Toshindo, 2007), "The Harmonization of Automobile Environmental Standards between Japan, the United States and Europe" in Pacific Review vol. 20-3, "Administrative Reorganization and Public Sector Reform in Japan" in The Public Sector in Transition: East Asia and the European Union Compared (Nomos, 2007), "Technology Innovation and Diffusion for Environmental Protection," in Energy Market Restructuring and the Environment (The University Press of America, 2002). He also served as the Chairman of the Planning Committee of New Initiatives for Humanities and Social Sciences Program at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science from 2003-2008, as President of the PI forum, an NPO for consensus building in Japan from 2006-2008 and as a member of various government advisory councils on higher education, nuclear safety, food safety, fire protection, scenarios for climate mitigation, and industrial policy.

Takafumi Yamamoto is the CEO& President of TOUDAI TLO, Ltd. (CASTI), which is a technology licensing organization of the University of Tokyo. Mr. Yamamoto heads the primary technology licensing office for Japan's top school - the University of Tokyo. He had work experiences at Recruit, Ltd. as a planner of new business development and technology transfer from universities to industries. He established this business scheme with consulting efforts of Mr. Niels Reimers, who was a first director of OTL, Office of Technology Licensing, at Stanford University and got involved with other technology transferring organizations such as M.I.T., UC Berkley and UCSF. Mr. Yamamoto established the Technology Management Division at Recruit, Ltd in 1998. After the experiences, he joined TOUDI TLO in July 2000. He is also one of the board members of UNITT (AUTM Japan) He is appointed as an Expert Member to Prime Minister's IP Strategy Headquarters.

Jane Muir's career spans three decades with a broad range of professional experiences with of marketing, sales, management, and technology transfer. She spent the first decade of her career in the private sector at several international corporations. For the past 22 years she has held leadership roles in technology transfer at the University of Florida first in the College of Engineering as the Marketing Director for the NASA Southeast Regional Technology Transfer Center, and for the past 14 years at the Office of Technology Licensing. In addition to her role as Associate Director in the technology licensing office, she also serves as Director of UF Tech Connect and Director of the Florida Innovation Hub at UF a unique 50,000-sq.-ft. incubator that provides offices, labs and other resources to startup companies commercializing research from Florida universities.

Jane previously served as the Vice President for Professional Development for the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), where she developed and implemented training programs on a variety of marketing and technology transfer topics presenting both nationally and internationally. She currently serves as AUTM's President working to drive the strategic direction of a 3200 member association.

Jane graduated cum laude from Southwest Minnesota State University with a B.S. in Marketing and a B.S. in Business Administration & Management. She has served on the boards of a number of organizations, and has been awarded numerous grants for technology-commercialization programs. Most recently she was the primary author on the $8.2 million grant from the Economic Development Administration to build the Florida Innovation Hub at UF.

Alison is Director of Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI). KTI is a national resource, responsible for the promotion, development and management of Ireland’s knowledge transfer system.

Alison has over 20 years working at the academic-industry interface. Her experience includes business development and industry collaboration, IP management, out-licensing, start-up company creation, executive education, policy and the impact of research and innovation. During her career, she has worked in the biotech industry, led technology transfer and research support offices and worked as an independent consultant specialising in technology transfer and open innovation. She is a non-executive director of PraxisUnico and Portfolio Chair for International Development. She is also a Director of the global Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP). Alison has served as a non-executive director on a number of companies and acted as an advisor to government departments in the UK and overseas. She was awarded an OBE for her services to UK knowledge transfer in 2010.

Kevin is the CEO of UNSW Innovations at UNSW Australia in Sydney. He is responsible for developing the UNSW model for Knowledge Exchange and commercialisation, with particular emphasis on supporting the translation of the University’s excellent research outputs into use by society. Dr Cullen brings extensive international experience to this position having been active at board level in the leading Technology Transfer Associations in the UK (PraxisUnico), Europe (ASTP) and the US (AUTM). He was the previous Chairman of the global Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) and has a long-standing interest in economic development, spin-out companies, and developing the University interface with SMEs (small and medium-sized companies). Prior to joining the university sector, Kevin worked for Procter & Gamble in the UK and Belgium, in the fields of technical brand management, product development, and technology development, covering Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Having graduated as a civil engineer, Alfred Schillert started his career with working for an innovative high tech company in the sensors/ microelectronics sector. Subsequently, he worked as a consultant at ZENIT GmbH responsible for technology management, mediation of international cooperation partners, as well as for initial patent consulting. When PROvendis GmbH was founded in 2001 he became managing director of the patent marketing agency for 27 universities of North Rhine-Westphalia. PROvendis offers the industry exclusive access to protection rights relating to innovations. Since 2004, Alfred Schillert is also Chairman of TechnologieAllianz e.V., that comprises 28 Patent Marketing agencies, which work for about 200 German universities as well as some research institutions.

Paul Keim, PhD, is a microbiologist and expert in infectious diseases. In particular, he has worked bacterial pathogens that have been used as biological weapons. His laboratory investigated the US anthrax letter attacks in 2001 and helped identify the source of the attack spores. His lab also worked on the Aum Shinriko anthrax attach in Kameido Japan in 1993. He was a founding member of the US National Science Advisory Board (NSABB) that has advised the US Government on issues of Dual Use research. He was acting chairman from 2010 to 2012 when the NSABB recommended the redactions of avian influenza transmission experiments. Dr. Keim is Professor and Director of Pathogen Genomics at Northern Arizona University and the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

Masami Ito, Ph,D., is professor of Gunma University; in charge of collaboration research between academia and industry at Gunma university. Other his mission in this university is to teach MOT and intellectual property. for graduate/undergraduate students. Since 2009 he is the president of Japan society for intellectual production (J-sip). The purpose of this society is to systematize the methodology of the collaboration between industry and academia. Especially he is interested in regional collaboration system involving various sectors such as industry, academia, local government, financial institution and so on for the purpose of the generation of innovation. Also, he played important roll to formulate “Guidelines for Establishing and Practicing Voluntary Control Systems for Security Trade” and “Security Trade Control Guidelines for Researchers” which are published by J-sip in 2009 with assistance from the relevant divisions at METI and MEXT.

Masamitsu MORIMOTO specializes on security, especially nonproliferation and export control issues. He works at Center for Information on Security Trade Control (CISTEC) as an export control adviser. He is also a Senior Visiting Researcher, Keio Research Institute at SFC, and teaches national security law at Gakushuin University. He originally joined then-Japan Defense Agency (JDA) (Ministry of Defense) in 1996, where he worked for defense policy issues including procurement reform and North Korea analysis especially for its nuclear and missile activities. He also served a deputy director of Security Export Control Policy Division, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), from 2003 to 2006 which is responsible for export control policy including arms export in Japan. MORIMOTO earned an MA from Fletcher School, Tufts University in 2000, and a BA in Law from University of Tokyo in 1996. MORIMOTO published a book “Buki Yushutsu Sangensoku (Three Principles on Arms Export)” which is a comprehensive study on the policy including background history and legal status. MORIMOTO also wrote various articles on security issue including Laws and Regulations Protecting Sensitive Technologies for National Security in “Patent Studies”, Sep. 2013.

Jacqueline Barnett holds a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA. She worked in the biotechnology industry and then joined a contract research organisation as research programme manager for food science. Jaci joined the University of the Witwatersrand's commercialisation company in 2005 and, in 2007, established the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's Technology Transfer Office and is its first Director. She was the Vice-President for Innovation and Technology Transfer of the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association until 2013 and is SARIMA's representative on ATTP. Jaci is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional.

Since 1986, Dr. Gulley has provided leadership for innovation and technology transfer, serving as Associate Vice President and Assistant Vice Chancellor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2012 he retired to work globally and establish 21 technology transfer offices in Chile. He now serves as a senior advisor to the Universidad Catlica de la Santsima Concepcion, Chile; on AUTM’s International Faculty; as consultant to IP Shakti, a proof-of-concept firm; and as advisor to Xomix, a biotechnology accelerator. His credentials include “Registered Technology Transfer Professional” (RTTP) and “Certified Licensing Professional” (CLP) and his undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Southern Illinois University and Virginia Tech.

Jeff Skinner is the Executive Director of the Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. He is also co-Director of the Entrepreneurship Summer School and teaches on a variety of MBA and Executive Education programmes at the School. He is Faculty lead on all student entrepreneurship activities including numerous competitions (including the VCIC, GSVC, Clean Tech Challenge), speaker series (www.tellseries.com), and the Entrepreneurship Club. He is a visiting lecturer at University College London, Gent University and has designed and directed new venture courses for academic and senior practitioner audiences across the UK, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining London Business School he was Commercial Director of University College London for 18 years where he was responsible for the creation of over 30 technology-based new ventures that together raised over £30m in first round seed and ‘Series A’ finance. He also conceived and built the university’s licensing, corporate alliance, consulting, business development and seed fund operations. Before joining UCL he led photonic research teams at Hoechst Celanese (in New Jersey) and General Electric. Jeff’s main area of expertise is in the creation of entrepreneurial businesses with a particular emphasis on technology-based ventures. He has written numerous teaching cases on the topic and consults widely for public bodies across Europe. He has recently published the definitive guide to technology commercialisation that is now used by all UK universities, “Commercial Skills for Academics and Researchers” (Leadership Foundation, 2012). He is founder and past President of the leading UK and European Technology Transfer Associations (PraxisUnico and ASTP). He is also co-Founder of the Professional Body for the technology transfer profession (ATTP) and Chairs their global accreditation group. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering, an MBA from London Business School and is a Certified Accountant.

Ara Tahmassian, Ph.D., is the Chief Research Compliance Officer at Harvard University; responsible for oversight, review, development, and implementation of policies related to research compliance activities across the university. He works to manage potential risks by integrating and coordinating the compliance requirements across the university. Dr. Tahmassian, previously served as Associate Vice President for Research Compliance at Boston University and Boston Medical Center; and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at University of California, San Francisco. He holds a Ph.D. in Radiobiology from Queen Mary College- London University, and is a Diplomate of American Board of Sciences in Nuclear Medicine.t,

Born in Osaka in 1958. Completed a Ph.D. at the History Department at Stanford University after finishing the Graduate Program at the Faculty of Economics, Osaka University. Publications include Akademikku kyapitarizumu o koete (Beyond Academic Capitalism), which was awarded the Yomiuri-Yoshino Sakuzo Prize in 2010.

After working for Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc., found TUAT TLO Co., Ltd. as President, 2001. Professor at Department of Industrial Technology and Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology since 2013.

Toshiya Watanabe graduated from the Tokyo Institute of Technology with a Ph.D degree in 1994. He has worked in R&D and was Executive Manager for TOTO LTD from 1985 to 2001. He was appointed Professor at the University of Tokyo from 2001. He is currently a Professor at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo. He is also a Professor at the Department of Technology Management for Innovation, the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. He has served as a professional committee member for the Council for Science and Technology Policy, as a professional committee member at the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters and as a committee member on various other bodies in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Cabinet Office. He is a founder and current director of the Intellectual Property Association of Japan. The current research field of Toshiya Watanabe is intellectual property management. He has authored eight books　and approximately 100 academic papers.

Sean Flanigan is the Immediate Past-President of the Association of University Technology Managers and a technology transfer practitioner. Mr. Flanigan studied law at the University of Ottawa and has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1993. At the University of Ottawa Mr. Flanigan leads the team responsible for industrial liaison, technology development and transfer, new company creation and student entrepreneurship. He has created a student incubator (www.startupgarage.ca) and an applied research program for small and medium sized enterprises (www.sme4sme.ca). Mr. Flanigan is a member of the Board of Directors of several early stage technology based companies in the Ottawa region. In 2006 he became active in AUTM and in 2008 Mr. Flanigan became Vice President for Canada and in 2012 was selected as President-Elect by the AUTM membership. During his Presidency of AUTM in 2013-2014 Mr. Flanigan championed a wholesale strategic shift in the organization’s structure including development of a new strategic plan while overseeing one of the most successful annual meetings in AUTM history and achieving record breaking financial performance. Since 2010 he served as the Chair of the Governance committee of the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), which brought the Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) designation to the profession. uOttawa, is a comprehensive university with more than 40,000 students located in the heart of the Canada’s Capital and is one of Canada’s top 10 research universities with annual research expenditures exceeding $304M.

Athena is a business development dynamo with over 10 years’ experience matching customer needs with products and services in the nuclear/radiation, environmental and renewable energy markets. Full of energy and strategic in outlook, Athena is able to build business effortlessly.

At the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) Athena successfully grew commercial business for the radiation safety training and consulting business within the environmental, medical and mining sectors. She has worked as a Business Development Manager for the University Melbourne, CAST Co-operative Research Center (CRC) and New South Innovations (NSi), the commercialisation company of UNSW. Responsible for securing the first ‘Easy Access IP’ licence and building lasting relationships with new customers in China and Korea for solar energy technologies. Athena is a committed opportunity finder and deal closer.

Athena has prepared several Business Plans for clients such as CAST CRC and VPAC Innovations, she has successfully applied for a grants, including work for the University of Melbourne, as well as and conducted due diligence on an organisation Swinburne University was assessing for acquisition. She has reviewed a multitude of technologies and created commercial strategies for NSi, University of Melbourne and University of Wollongong. Alongside generating new leads and creating new opportunities for partnering.

Athena's most recent work as the Communications Manager for the CRC for Low Carbon Living and Communications Advisor to Alkane resources. Alongside her colleagues at gemaker she has delivered and implemented communications marketing strategies and plans, branding guidelines, marketing collateral and facilitated events.

Athena was a finalist in the 2013 Telstra Victorian Young Business Women’s Award. Passionate to improving the global standard for technology transfer, she is the Co-Chair of the marketing committee for the Alliance of Technology Transfer professionals. She obtained her status as Registered Technology Transfer professional in November 2013.

David Winwood, Ph.D., is Chief Business Development Officer at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, the first person appointed to this position. A graduate of the University of East Anglia (B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and North Carolina State University (M.A.), Winwood has experience in academia and the private sector. He has managed intellectual property and economic development activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), North Carolina State University and The Ohio State University. Winwood is designated a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) by The Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), the international body for professionals engaged in technology transfer.

Christian Stein is CEO of Ascenion GmbH, a subsidiary of the Life Science Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Research. Ascenion supports more than 20 public research organizations on commercial exploitation of research results in the Life Science sector. Ascenion has an equity arm holding equity in about 25 companies. Before 2001, Christian Stein headed the project management department at the Fraunhofer Patent Centre. He is chairman of the MGC Foundation and board member of the global Association of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP). Since 2014 he is President of ASTP-Proton, the European Association for Knowledge and Technology Transfer Professionals.

Dr. Ichiro Sakata is a Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering and at UTokyo Policy Alternatives Research Institute, The University of Tokyo. He is the project leader of ERIA Energy Research in East Asia. He is also a Visiting Professor at Kyushu University and a Consulting Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry. He is a member of the OECD's Expert Advisory Group (EAG) on Innovation Strategy and of the Engineering Academy of Japan, and a head of Group 1, ESRI's Service Innovation International Research Program. His interests include technology management, technology roadmapping and innovation networks, with a focus on rapidly growing sectors, including healthcare, solar cells and batteries. Dr Sakata was born in 1966. He received his master's degree from Brandeis University in 1997 and a Ph.D from The University of Tokyo in 2003. He has working experience as a senior policy analyst and a policy maker at the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
